My husband and I just started working out at a local fitness club/gym. Can we deduct the money and monthly payments we spend there under the health care category or any other category on our income taxes? We are using to club to be in better health and prevent diseases usually associated with over-weight people after-all.

Only if it is doctor-ordered. And then, only if the dues/fees plus other medical expense rise to the 7.5% level. You will need a medical note with a diagnosis (and unless you are morbidly obese or using the gym for physical therapy don't count on it).

If you get a letter from a doctor saying it was recommended by him for a certain illness or injury. I have heard of people doing that. But if you just joined on your own, then no.

Not deductible.

Sure, why not - movie stars take a deduction for tanning salons
But, then again IRS disallowed it
My grandma deducted her fitness club dues but IRS just wrote and
told her to "do your jumping jacks at home"

Your un-reimbursed medical expenses must exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. The membership must be doctor ordered. So, in all likelihood, the answer is no, it won't be deductible.
