What is/are the best kind of exercise(s) to do for losing weight from and firming up my butt and thighs?

What is/are the best kind of exercise(s) to do for losing weight from and firming up my butt and thighs?
I do the "total body workout" for 30 minutes on an elliptical machine 4 times a week and I do squats (slowly increasing in weight) 2 times a week. I've only been doing this for a few weeks, but will these exercises help over time? I don't consider myself fat, but I do carry a lot of my weight below my waist, and I'd like to lose some of that and possibly firm up some of that jiggle and cellulite! Feeling comfortable in a swimsuit again would be amazing :)

Running is the best. It is the most efficient method of burning calories and shapes and tones your hips, legs and thighs.

Although you are not fat, to help eliminate any fat that you may have one your butt & thighs you are going to have to cut down on the calories a bit.
Nothing drastic, but around 100 calories a day. Although this would only give you a 1 pound loss (by dieting) in a month, you will be burning extra calories by exercising. Also since you are exercising too strict of a diet will cause you to lose muscle not fat.

By dieting very slowly it will hit your fat stores.

The elliptical machine will be great for your lower body. Although squats are still very popular more and more people are getting away from them due to knee injuries. Not immediate injuries but problems that show up years later. If you continue to keep doing squats make sure 100% that your form is perfect, otherwise there could be trouble down the road.

Since you are looking for toning and shaping why not try Pilates? Pilates is excellent for firming and sculpting and since you already do cardio, Pilates would be a perfect compliment.

With Pilates you can either work your entire body or just focus on specific areas. If you want to just work your lower half, your Pilates routine would take about 15 minutes a day and results are usually seen starting in a little as two weeks.
So between the slow dieting (to lose fat) and Pilates to shape you could be beach ready in less than 1 month.
