I am interested in opening a health club or fitness gym or whatever you prefer to call it, but I was wondering if it is worth the time and effort. I am trying to start my research, but have found nothing so far on how much would be a reasonable amount to pay myself as the owner. Can anyone help me out?

There is a HUGE range of health clubs. It totally depends on what your business plan is. It's like asking if a clothing store is profitable. You're being way too vague.

ive worked at a gym before and basically this is how it works.
Usually a department of operations :front desk/cleaning services/ etc
Sales department: Backbone of the health club -bringing in new members
Fitness Trainers: Maintaining members/ educating them
Alright so basically your gonna have to take out a big loan out to get all of the fitness equipment, permits, etc
This is how you make your money:
NEW MEMBERS (intro fee and monthly fee) monthly fee is residual income remember that
+
Trainers sale by the session.
+
Vitamins and supplements = money
Now if your successful you may be able to pay off your loan in a few years and everything else you'll make is profit including the residual income.
So basically if you have a big capitol meaning a large sum of money to get everything started i think its a great investment.
Its all about location and how well you market your gym.
Now as far as how payroll works...such as how you pay yourself or so...i am not too sure how that works.
Remember you can either strike gold or go bankrupt. email me if you have questions i may be able to help xxsicrokerxx@yahoo.com
