How many dumbell exercises per workout ?

How many dumbell exercises per workout ?
Say you weight lift 3 times per week with one day in between for rest whats a good number of dumbbell exercises to perform in each workout for overall training ?

Whats the minimum amount of exercises you should do per muscle group ?

If you can do say 10 reps for exercise A but only 3 reps for exercise B with the same weight do you drop some weight on the dumbbell or keep it as it is ?

A general rule is that if you can do more than 15-20 reps of a particular weight, then you need to increase the weight. Do 3 sets of 10-12 reps of each exercise. Then do 3 different exercises for each muscle group. eg. say you are doing chest and biceps. You do 3 sets on bench press, then 3 sets on pec dec, then 3 sets flys. Then do 3 sets preacher curls, 3 sets dumbell curls and 3 sets barbell curls. You shouldn't do more than 25 or so sets in one session total. So 3 muscle groups in one session is plenty. Also, its important not to do the same thing or lift the same weight everytime, since you want to shock your muscles into growth, you can try lifting 80-90% maximum weight and just do 5 sets of 4-6 reps. This will build muscle bulk quickly.
